Brazil Meeting Focuses on Headache
A group of professors and graduate students from the Araraquara Dental School at Universidade Estadual Paulista (UNESP, http://www.foar.unesp.br) in Araraquara, Brazil, studies, researches, and publishes articles about the interaction between temporomandibular disorders (TMD) and headaches. Last month they held a special meeting called “Discussing the role of TMD in the Global Year Against Headache.” During the meeting, Dr. Ana Lucia Franco Micheloni, DDS, MSc (student), Dr. Daniela G. Gonçalves (professor), and Dr. Giovana Fernandes, DDS (student), presented data showing a significant association between TMD and primary headaches, demonstrating the comorbidity of TMD and migraine and indicating that TMD can be a risk factor for chronic migraine.
